Solid Fuel Boiler Heat Exchanger

First view of the super efficient heat exchanger test set up. In the video you will see the test run using a small amount of cardboard as fuel. It took 12 minutes from startup to boil 20 litres cold tap water in the second heat exchanger. Both units hold approximately 20litres of water.
The system is now being plumbed into a heating system and will be used to test the output through radiators and an indirect immersion cylinder. As the output of the stove cannot be controlled a seperate water circuit will be fitted to dump excess heat into underfloor hot water storage units which will basically consist of long rolls of plastic pipe coiled under the floors…

Cooking Steaks and Burgers on my Rocket Stove

I used to grill steaks, burgers and chicken on a BBQ grill with charcoal, but they were never tender, juicy and yummy delicious. I built myself a rocket stove and started cooking on a cast iron grill pan from Walmart and now I cook for free (no charcoal, lighter fluid, or time, money and effort spent getting these things).

Everything I cook on my rocket tastes absolutely wonderful, and all I have to do is throw in some twigs and small branches from the trees in my yard that died from the extreme drought we had last summer, and presto, chango, I’m ready to really cook!

If you want one too, send me a note and I will build you a good quality rocket stove for 30 bucks. Ya gotta buy your own grill pan!

My sister’s electric has been cut off?

This is through getting herself into money difficulties, and not being able to pay. She has two kids, and the electric board have said it will be a week before she’s put back on.

Now she has imposed herself upon me, and moved in for a few days.

Who reckons I should put up the 2 man tent out the back garden for her?

It has been raining, but there is a ground sheet and two very good sleeping bags (one of the boys will have to use my daughter’s princess sack). Also there is a full cooking set, a solid fuel camping stove and spare batteries for the lantern.

Wht would you do? : [)

Can I tie Pellet stove exhaust in with Central heating Exhaust?

I am putting the new pellet stove in the living room. Just on the other side of the wall from the living room (in the garage) is the central heating unit and the exhaust pipe is right there. I want to know if I can make a hole in the central heating exhaust and run the pellet stove out the same hole as the central heating exhaust. It will save my roof another hole.

Pellet (or any other solid fuel) stoves almost always require a Type -"L" vent. Your furnace will use a Type -"B" vent, with single wall connector pipes at the furnace and/or water heater. If you have an electric water heater, and an oil-burning furnace, you can check with the manufacturer’s of both the pellet stove and the furnace to see if they allow multiple venting. [Oil-burners also use Type L vents.]

Even if that is allowed, the chimney vent would have to be sized for the combined BTU’s of both appliances. You also have to be careful about penetrating a Fire Rated Wall, as you have between your house and garage.

Multiple appliance venting systems are addressed in Section M1801.11 of the IRC, you should be referencing many Sections of Parts V & VI of the IRC. They will also give you the appropriate references to both the International Mechanical Code, and the International Fuel Gas Code.

Remember, in almost all of the various Mechanical Codes that are published for adoption by states or municipalities; preference is almost exclusively given to the Manufacturer’s Installation Instructions, and the listing & labeling requirements of the appliances.

I just made eggs, and my electrical stove caught fire. Why is this?

I was using the stove top and it’s electrical. It never has done this before. It started a fire underneath the skillet. I got some water quickly and poured it on top and it went out. But why did it catch fire? Should I be worried? Also I smelled smoke before it did, but that’s a given.

First off. Use BAKING SODA, NOT WATER. The wiring inside may have caught fire. Don’t use it again until you know for sure. It may have been something simple like spillage. Take it outside and fire it up(ha ha) to see if it does it again once it has been looked at.
